Build an extraordinary life, three goals at a time.

You, my friend, aren’t like most people.

If you are reading this, there’s a good chance you are a military academy grad and have served with the branches of our Armed Forces. Others of you are badasses in a completely different way. Most of you are creating a business and a livelihood out of thin air. A lot of you are building a family out of a promise. All of you are actively creating a life out of every decision you’ve ever made.

Pretty powerful stuff, if you ask me.

Just imagine what you could do if you channel it more purposefully.

I bring this up because I’m about to tackle some pretty intense goal setting at my Live Event and Cohort sessions this week. We don’t just cover Q2 business initiatives (like in the OPSP taught here). We outline where we want to be in 25 years and reverse engineer our lives from there, drilling down to 3-Year Milestones, Annual Tactical Plans, quarterly goals, monthly objectives, and weekly TOP ONE tasks. (I told you it was intense).

I challenge everyone to assess, evaluate, and score their lives EVERY QUARTER according to the ten categories on my Life Wheel GPS. We then pull out the three categories that need your focus the most.

In this exercise, we almost always focus on our business as one of these priorities as it typically supports or affects the other nine categories most dramatically. From there, we create goals to improve our quality of life (which includes those we love) in one or two categories as needed, from working on our financial security to incorporating more opportunities for fun and family time.

The purpose of this exercise is to remind us that we don’t need to—and truly can’t—focus on all the things, all of the time. Instead of doing it all poorly, we commit to throwing all we can at these three goals for the next three months so we can move the ball a little bit further down the field. Next quarter, we’ll pick it up and tackle the next set.

Life balance isn’t a teeter-totter. It’s a spinning plate. When you keep a keen eye out for wobbles, you can prevent them from spiraling out of control. You’ve got this. Now let’s get it done.

Build out your three specific goals and share them with people who care about you and the extraordinary life you want.

If you really want to hammer it home...

Write your goals in the present tense.

Where there is a “will,” there is a way...out. Use the present tense to define your new reality. “I am going on a walk with my wife every day. I am eating dinner without my phone. I am clearing my inbox every afternoon.”

Place your goals where you’ll see them every day.

There is tons of neuroscience behind constant reminders of your game-changing goal-setting. Distill your goals into a photograph, an action verb, or a personal motto and “see” that you get them done.

Share your goals on social media

Honor your commitments publicly—and tag @thelionspride so we can cheer you on.

Schedule it in your calendar like your life depends on it. Because it does.

You can’t cram for this exam. Extraordinary lives aren’t built on all-nighters before the final exam. You have to build them every single day.
